Control Atmospheric Cooling System
Control Atmospheric Cooling System is a storage technique where the oxygen level is lowered and usually carbon dioxide level is raised. In this investment option, oxygen is withdrawn from the system to eliminate respiration so that the maggots on dried figs die completely. And with the moisturizing process, moisture loss that causes weight loss in dried figs is prevented. Under controlled atmosphere conditions, many products can be stored for 2 to 4 times longer than normal refrigeration systems.
Additional devices required for storage in control atmospheric cooling system;
Nitrogen Generator
Nitrogen generator produces pure nitrogen from the surrounding normal air; oxygen is expelled after nitrogen is taken from air. If the amount of oxygen is lowered in a cold room, aspiration is delayed and thus the burning of important foodstuffs in vegetables or fruits is reduced. The amount of oxygen is reduced to the lowest possible level (Low Level Oxygen – LLO) in order to preserve foodstuffs and therefore quality.
Nitrogen Generator consists of two containers with high scale MCS (Molecular Carbon Sieve) value. Molecular sieve absorbs nitrogen molecules for a certain period and up to a certain pressure. After a container reaches the saturation point, the system automatically activates the other container with the help of a valve. The absorbed oxygen molecules are blown out and the saturated container is depressurized and prepared for reuse. This simple principle ensures a long operating time and high reliability.

Carbon dioxide Scavenger
Carbon dioxide scavengers are used for controlling the CO 2 levels in a cold room store. The air in the storage area is directed through the scavenger and the air purified from CO 2 is returned. Oxygen (O 2 ) is used during respiration and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) is released.
Surplus of CO 2 causes irreversible damages and therefore it must be removed from the environment. Each product generates different amount of CO 2 and each of them has different sensitivity to CO 2 . In this system, it is possible to store many different fruits and vegetables in a single cold storage by using a central gas purification equipment. Activated charcoal in the CO 2 trap absorbs CO 2 molecules.
After the air passed through activated charcoal is purified from CO 2 , it is sent back to the cold air room. Thus, CO 2 is effectively removed from the cold air room.
